Mark as Unread or For Follow Up

It would be great if we could either mark a thread as unread, or mark it for follow up in some way.

Use Case:I as a GM see a new update in a thread, then see that it's going to require a huge amount of time to resolve, I'd like to be able to flag it and leave it for say when I get home from work.

Re: Mark as Unread or For Follow Up

I can see this being useful for both players and GMs in a game.  Another thing that would be useful is for a GM to be able to flag a thread as "unread" for the players- for instance, when editing the contents of a stickied Notice post.

I use one of these to hold dungeon maps, for instance, and although I update the maps often my players will sometimes forget to check the thread because it never shows up in red.  If I could make it appear "unread" when there's new information in it, I'm confident they'd check it without my having to post reminders to people.

Whimper, there is a bump topic button that game GM's have access to to mark a topic as needing attention from the players.

Though yes, I think this would be a good idea for the user to be able to implement, I remember some occasions where if I didn't post in a thread the moment I read it, I forgot it needed a post from me.

Re: Mark as Unread or For Follow Up

That would be nice as well.  I'll usually check rpol when I have a few minutes.  However I don't always have the time I'd like to make the necessary replies.  Being able to re-flag something as "unread" would be good for those occasions as a reminder.

Some games would be in more need of it than others, but I've been in a number where it would have been useful for me as a player.

Mark as unread is something I wish we had every single day I read something but don't have time to get around to addressing it in full at that moment.

Re: Mark as Unread or For Follow Up

This is a good idea that's been suggested before more than once.  I'll quote BBR from another thread:

bigbadron:
A "mark as unread" function has been suggested before, and is on the list of possible changes which will be made in future.

Yes, however this also "bumps" the thread out of its place, and requires me to spend 10 minutes re-ordering all my stickied Notice threads, in the process marking them all as unread (and making the whole affair pointless).  See my ongoing thread on the subject: link to a message in this forum

Re: Mark as Unread or For Follow Up

Technically, if you're with an established group (if you have players coming in and out it might be different), isn't the thread with the map and the current HP/bonus status the most important thread anyway?

Re: Mark as Unread or For Follow Up

I would agree, a mark as unread would be nice.  Though how would it work?  Now the mark as read - inc. ALL threads.  If a mark as unread were also to be an all threads or no threads toggle: it wouldn't be worth it, IMHO.

Good question, distinguishability is obviously nessecary but how much more complicated is that?  Perhaps the Mark As Read button can be in the actual thread, when you click it, it sends you back out of the thread and marks it as unread.  As opposed to doing Mark As Unread in the main area and whiping everything.

Re: Mark as Unread or For Follow Up

One snag in this plan comes when you log out of RPOL.  Right now RPOL only remembers which individual threads are read during your session.  Once you log out, it only stores the date-time of the most recent posts you viewed, so when you log back in everything after the stored date-time is unread and everything before the date-time is read (even if you actually didn't read some of them).
